Preparation checklist

• Gather your thoughts and materials. Review your journals and notes that might help you remember details.
• Browse your photo albums to stimulate memories and choose the photos you might want to use in the story.
• Decide who you’ll share the finished story with. Just yourself? Family? Friends? Public post? Thinking about your audience in advance will help guide what memories and details to include and which ones to leave out.

Their feedback can provide valuable perspective and help you improve your story. After you get their feedback you can go back and edit the story as desired — or ask the Virtual Biographer to rewrite it with the feedback!

Write the Story Yourself: Suggested Outline

1. Introduction

• Begin with his name and what it means to you.
• Share when and where he was born, and how you felt the first time you saw him.
• A short statement of what he represents in your life (joy, hope, blessing, purpose).

2. Early Years

• First impressions of his personality as a child.
• Funny or memorable childhood moments.
• His first words, steps, or quirks that stood out.

3. Growing Up

• School years: talents, interests, and friends.
• Hobbies or passions that defined his youth.
• Challenges he faced and how he overcame them.
• Memorable family moments you shared together.

4. Milestones & Achievements

• Significant accomplishments (school, sports, arts, personal growth).
• Times when you felt especially proud.
• Moments where he surprised you with his character, wisdom, or humor.

5. Character & Values

• Qualities that define him (kindness, determination, creativity, etc.).
• Stories that illustrate those traits.
• How he makes a difference in the lives of others.

6. Your Relationship

• The bond between you: traditions, conversations, or shared experiences.
• Lessons you’ve taught him—and lessons he’s taught you.
• How your relationship has evolved as he’s grown.

7. Reflections & Gratitude

• What being his parent has meant to you.
• The joys, challenges, and surprises of raising him.

• Your dreams and wishes for him.

• A heartfelt message directly to him (almost like a letter).
• End with a simple truth about your love for him.
